Albert was born on February 12, 1933, in Pamlico County, NC, to Jesse and Bernice Boyd.
He graduated from Pamlico High School in 1952. At Pamlico High School, he was a star athlete, excelling in basketball and baseball. After high school, he signed a minor league contract to play in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. After one spring training in Vero Beach, his baseball dreams were ended when he was drafted into the Army in 1954. Albert was stationed in Germany during his two years in the Army: he was honorably discharged in 1956.
After leaving the Army, Albert moved to Northern Virginia where he was co-owner of Boyd and Michaels Drywall. He operated his business until his retirement in 1993.
Albert married Joy Huntt on January 27, 1978. After retirement, they lived in Florida and North Carolina before moving to Fredericksburg in 2013. They traveled extensively during their marriage, including trips to many locations in the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.
Albert’s love of his family was exceeded only by his love of Jesus. He was active in church in every town in which he lived. He was an ordained deacon. During his time in Fredericksburg, he was a member of Richland Baptist Church.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Bernice Boyd, his brothers, Reginald Boyd and Chester Boyd, and his sisters, Pauline Haines and Audrey Humphrey.
Albert is survived by his wife, Joy Boyd of Fredericksburg; his daughter and her husband, Virginia and Rick Slusher of Manassas; his son and his wife, Timothy and Tammy Huntt of Stafford; and one sister, Sandra Hardison of Arapahoe, NC.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Alyssa and her husband Kevin Fenstermacher of Haymarket, Greg and his wife Lauren Slusher of Holly Springs, NC, Emily Huntt of Raleigh, NC, and Lindsey Huntt of Stafford; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
