Alexius Camaya Layug Alex was born on July 17, 1961 to Jose and Leonor Layug (4th of the 8 siblings). At the young age of 21 he joined the United States Navy. During his naval career he served in the Gulf War, achieved the highest enlisted rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, selected for special assignment to the White House Presidential Staff Mess where he retired after 20 years of honorable service to the United States of America serving former U.S. Presidents George H. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He then continued his patriotic service and worked his second career with the United States Executive Office of the President and retired after another 20 years.
Alex lived the American Dream. He was a very humble and a selfless man who did so much to his family, relatives, friends and even to people he didn’t even know or met at all. He was always sympathetic and showed empathy at all times. He was a consistent caring man who went above and beyond for everyone. He helped any and everybody without prejudice or reciprocity such as the unfortunates in streets of DC where he would give them some money and water each time he sees them. To have known and to have had him in your life was a huge blessing and a privilege. To acknowledge all his good deeds would take nearly an infinite amount of time. To call him a good or great man would be such a gross understatement. He was within the best of humanity, a loving father, grandfather, son, brother to all his siblings, uncle and friend. He passed away too soon, peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his sons Tyron and AJ (Kyla) Layug, grandchildren Winter and twins Skye and Ella, brothers, sisters, aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be forever loved and missed, his fond memories remembered. Rest in Peace and Anchors Away Master Chief ALEX LAYUG…
