

Bernadette Linton Butler, 93, of Stafford, VA, died December 17, 2014, at her Greenfield Assisted Living residence.
She was born in Fairfax, VA. After graduating from High School, she began her career working at the Naval Torpedo Station (NTS) in Alexandria, VA. When the NTS closed, she transferred to the Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon, retiring as an Administrative and Personnel Officer, after 29 years of service.
She and her husband, Randolph Butler, moved to Stafford in 1965; building their own home and became very active in volunteer work. She volunteered in the Extension Homemakers Organization serving as County President. She was very active in Summit Presbyterian Church. She is a chartered member of Summit and served as one of the first Elders of the Church. She also compiled the History of the first ten years of the church. She served as a member of the American Legion Post #390 Auxiliary, the Stafford Senior Citizens, served as President in 2001 for the Fredericksburg Senior Citizens, served as Vice President of the AARP #3396, and served as President of the Old Dominion Cardinals Camping Club. She loved bowling and was on two senior bowling leagues for many years. She had a positive attitude, a good sense of humor, a love for life, and a great love for her family and friends. She was a loving wife, a loving sister, an aunt, a great aunt, a great-great aunt, and even a great-great-great aunt. She will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Randolph Butler of 65 years; her parents; two sisters and two brothers; and one nephew.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Sallyanne DeShong, David Beavers, Terry Linton, John Linton, Elizabeth Viar, Gary Bly, Anthony Bly, James Beavers, Pamela Cooper, Deborah Taylor, and Jeffery Beavers-all of VA; Kenneth Linton of Texas, and Andrea Hollis of Colorado; and others.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday, December 22, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel.186 Shelton Shop Rd.
The funeral will be held at 10am Tuesday, December 23, at Summit Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dan Hrach and Rev. Carson Rhyne, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA.
