

He was a pilot for more than 30 years, flying for DuPont Co., the Corps of Engineers and NASA. He served as president of the Memphis Paraflyers Association in Tennessee and Delaware, was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and participated in a number of volunteer skydiving activities. He was also a member of the Aquia Harbour Host Lions Club for for more than 25 years.
He loved being on the water in his boats Bidarka and then Baidar. He was a member of the Aquia Harbour Yacht Club and Marlboro Point Yacht Club, enjoying many trips with both clubs. He also enjoyed restoring his 1965 ragtop Mustang and carpentry, which was his first career.
In semiretirement, he was the dockmaster of the Aquia Harbour Marina in Stafford County for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Lane. They celebrated their 45th anniversary on Sep. 5, 2014. He is also survived by a son, Charles R. Lane (wife Nina); daughter Charlotte Lane Dixon (husband Billy) and son Taylor D. Lane; brothers Bennie Cleveland Lane (wife Audrey), Jerry Lane (wife Phyllis); five grandsons, Brian Lane, Kenneth Lane, James Lane, Michael Little and Christopher Little; numerous nephews and nieces; and his constant four-legged companion, Brutus.
He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Lane; mother Allie Mai Lane; sister Lunell Lane; daughter Deborah Jean Cox; son Michael Allen Lane; and grandson Brandon Cox.
