Douglas Alexander Rodríguez Claros Sr. — cariñosamente conocido por mí como El Compadre — falleció en paz en su hogar en Stafford, Virginia, el martes 7 de octubre de 2025. Tenía 46 años.

Douglas luchó valientemente contra tumores cerebrales y soportó complicaciones durante un tiempo, enfrentando cada desafío con coraje, determinación y más de una palabra colorida. Si conocías a Douglas, sabías que era un poco cabeza caliente— pero de una manera apasionada. Amaba con intensidad, discutía con fuerza, perdonaba con rapidez, y nunca dejaba que te fueras sin una sonrisa (o al menos con una mirada sarcástica).

Nació en El Salvador y eventualmente llegó a Estados Unidos, donde construyó una vida con sus manos, su corazón y haciendo pisos de madera. Se sentía orgulloso de su trabajo, pero encontraba alegría en las cosas sencillas: la música, bailar donde sea y cuando sea, cantar fuerte y desafinado, ponerse al día conmigo comiendo comida china, y disfrutar de vez en cuando una o dos margaritas.

Le sobreviven su hijo, Douglas Rodríguez Jr.; su hermano, Marvin; su padre, Ricardo; y su querida madre, Angélica. También deja atrás a mí, Amanda — alguien que lo amó como un padre, a quien ayudó a criar, quien le sacó canas (y él me dio arrugas y acidez estomacal), y quien lo extrañará. También fue el orgulloso y no tan oficial padrino de Daisy y Lola, un título que llevó con honor y con los bolsillos llenos de golosinas.

Douglas podía tener un carácter fuerte, pero su corazón era aún más grande. Era el tipo de hombre que siempre estaba presente cuando importaba, que contaba chistes justo cuando más los necesitabas, y que hacía de cada reunión algo un poco más ruidoso, más alegre y más lleno de vida.

Se celebrará una conmemoración de la vida de Douglas en la funeraria Mullins & Thompson en Stafford, Virginia, el 18 de octubre de 2025. Las puertas estarán abiertas para familiares y amigos a partir de las 6 p.m., y el servicio comenzará a las 7 p.m. Después de el servicio, todos están invitados a continuar la celebración en la casa de los Barahona, ubicada en 312 Raft Cove, Stafford, VA 22554, donde lo recordaremos como a él le hubiera gustado — con risas, música, comida, y tal vez unas cuantas canciones desafinadas en su honor.

Douglas Alexander Rodriguez Claros Sr. — affectionately known to me as El Compadre — passed away peacefully at his home in Stafford, Virginia, on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025. He was 46 years old.

Douglas fought bravely against brain tumors and endured complications for some time, facing every challenge with grit, fire, and more than a few colorful words. If you knew Douglas, you knew he was a little hotheaded — but in a passionate way. He loved fiercely, argued loudly, forgave quickly, and never let you walk away without a smile (or at least an eye roll).

He was born in El Salvador and eventually made his way to the U.S., where he built a life with his hands, his heart, and a whole lot of hardwood flooring. He took pride in his work, but he found joy in the little things: music, dancing whenever and wherever, singing loudly and off-key, catching up with me over Chinese food, and sipping the occasional margarita or two.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Rodriguez Jr.; his brother, Marvin; his father, Ricardo; and his beloved mother, Angelica. He also leaves behind me, Amanda — someone who loved him like a father, who he helped raise, who drove him crazy (and vice versa), and who will miss him every single day. He was also the proud and unofficial godfather to Daisy and Lola, a title he wore with honor and a pocket full of treats.

Douglas may have had a temper, but he had a bigger heart. He was the kind of man who showed up when it mattered, cracked jokes when you needed them most, and made every gathering just a little louder, funnier, and more full of life.

A celebration of Douglas’s life will be held at Mullins & Thompson funeral home in Stafford VA on the 18th of October 2025. The exact address is 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, VA 22554. The doors will be open for family and friends at 6pm and service will begin at 7pm. After the service, everyone is invited to the Barahona’s residence located at 312 Raft Cove Stafford, VA 22554. Where we’ll remember him the way he would’ve wanted — with laughter, music, food, and maybe a few off-key songs in his honor.
