

Hailing from Mullens, West Virginia, Elbert graduated as a Cadet from Virginia Tech in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in Architecture. After two years of military service in Korea, he married Doris and they settled in Northern Virginia where he spent most of his life working for the federal government. He is remembered for his civic pride, generosity, and kindness, as well as being a constant supporter of the Washington Commanders.
Elbert is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years Mrs. Doris Humphrey, their three children Matthew (Audrey), Gregory (John), and Elbert Jr., grandchildren Leanna (Will), Erin, and Nathan, and great grandson Cameron, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their respective children, to whom he was affectionately known as Uncle Tinker.
A memorial service will be held for him on Saturday, March 15th at 9:00 AM at the Mullins and Thompson funeral home in Stafford, Virginia (186 Shelton Shop Rd.) Lunch reception will follow the service.
Additionally, a Catholic funeral mass will be held for him at St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell, Virginia (510 W. Poythress St.) on Monday, March 17th with rosary starting at 12:30 and mass at 1:00 PM. Reception will follow.
