Garrett came into the world on February 28, 2000, and from the moment he entered our lives; his smile was infectious. He started his journey in Freehold, New Jersey. As a military child he bounced around between cities before settling in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Garrett’s first word was "ball". From that day forward sports played a massive role in his life. He played every sport imaginable, but he fell in love with baseball. He spent the next 12 years of his life perfecting his craft and leaving nothing but joy in his wake. Every week brought new tournaments in different places that his loving parents so willingly took him too. Every season brought a new team that wanted everything Garrett had to offer. He never disappointed. In the time between games, he spent his days bringing light to everyone he came into contact with. Whether he was playing neighborhood football or riding 4-wheelers, he rarely stopped moving.
As a rising junior his dad's new job brought Garrett to Stafford. A new city for him only provided him more people to impact. In typical Garrett fashion he became the epicenter of Mountain View High School and all of Stafford. He made countless friends that became family to him. He was the type of friend you only met once in a lifetime. He was so generous.
On top of his newfound friendships, he was still the same athletic phenom. In his first season at Mountain View he achieved first team all-conference and had an insane batting average of .428. He was a star! As a captain his senior season he led his team to the regional championships and achieved all-conference yet again. In only two seasons at Mountain View he finished top 3 in career batting averages and walks. He was an unstoppable force on the baseball field.
More importantly, he stopped at nothing to help others. If someone he cared for was in trouble or needed advice; no matter what he had going on in his life, he'd find the time to lend an ear and go above and beyond to support them. Everyone he met walked away with a piece of his love.
Garrett graduated with honors and attended Virginia Commonwealth University where his charisma led him into even more hearts. He became Vice President of his fraternity and was loved and respected by all, while making the Dean's List on numerous occasions. Though he would often run into trouble protecting his friends, he showed us what true strength is by picking himself back up.
His determination to succeed was rivaled by none. No matter what the world through his way he made sure he made it back to where he wanted to be. There was nothing anyone could do to stop him from reaching his goals. He was the most loving and kindhearted person you could ever meet. No amount of words can do his life justice. All that is certain is that in life and in death, Garrett is the glue that holds us all together.
