Joan Elizabeth Wascak

Joan was born October 9, 1953 in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania. She attended Westminster college. She then married her first love Richard Wascak on March 2, 1974, and then moved to Virginia. They raised two children together Matthew and Megan.

Joan was passionate about her creativity,including knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, decorating cakes and so much more. She loved staying up late putting together jigsaw puzzles and solving her logic puzzles. A voracious reader she was never without her Kindle reading one of hundreds of books at any one time. She was a dog lover and also enjoyed a good country concert. She was known for her intelligence, quick wit, and generosity.

Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Janet Fillers (2012). Her husband Richard Wascak (2016). Her in-laws John and Liz Wascak. Her sister-in-law Susan Wascak. And her two brother-in-laws, John Wascak and Thomas Wascak.

She is survived by her father, James Fillers; Her son, Matthew Wascak; Her daughter, Megan Wascak (fiancé Aaron Paul); Her sisters, Judy Lutz and Jill (Michael) Brinza, Charlie O'Toole; Her sister-in-law Carol (Darrell) Huffman; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephew.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you send house plants or make monetary donations in Joan's name to the Alzheimer's Association https://www.alz.org/ and the Prince William Humane Society https://www.pwhumane.org/donate.

The funeral service for Mrs. Wascak will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 20,2020 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service with a reception to follow.
