Joe was born in Bremerton, Washington and grew up in Scottsdale, AZ until moving to Stafford, Virginia in 2003.
Joe loved his family and was incredible at making friends. No matter where he went there was always someone within his social network who was happy to run into him on any given day. He was always willing to give a lending hand with friends and family, and was constantly putting others ahead of himself. Joe worked odd jobs, loved being outdoors and communing with nature, and was passionate about all of his interests in life. He loved music, cooking, and reading. Joe was happiest when he could experiment with his culinary abilities for large groups of people. His favorite joke was that “food” was his middle name, and although he was a skinny chef, he was an excellent one.
Joe is survived by his mother, Maureen Miller and her husband Harvey Miller; his father, Peter Berkebile of NM; his sister, Katie Berkebile with nieces Kaylynn and Brenna of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Erik Berkebile and wife Melissa with two nephews Killian and Patrick of Fort Campbell, KY; and his sister Megan Berkebile, of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his maternal uncles Mike Maguire of Scottsdale AZ, Pat Maguire and wife Ana of Kenosha WI; maternal aunt Colleen Covey and husband Mitch of Mesa AZ; paternal aunt Gretchen Coen of Scottsdale AZ; paternal uncle Philip Berkebile of New Jersey and numerous cousins.

Services and interment will be held at Messingers Mortuary in Scottsdale, AZ, with viewing to be conducted on Tuesday January, 18, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and interment at St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ, on Wednesday January 19, 2011 at 11:00 am.
