He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; two sons, Andrew Matlock Derr and Joshua Walter Derr; daughter, Kelsey Marie Derr; two granddaughters, Virginia Renee and Harper Alia; and three sisters, Lois Anne Hoaks, Janete Lynne Christensen, and Rebecca Elaine Cline.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Kidney Foundation and or the American Heart Association.
