I just sent her an email as we were overdue for a catchup, and something made me google her name -- I am crushed such deeply wise, intuitive spirit has left this plane. 

Nearly twenty years ago, someone handed me her number on a post it note -- after meeting once in person,  we talked by phone nearly twice a year since.  

Before the formal consult, we talked in depth about humanity, politics and life.  Her daughter's achievements were such a point of pride.  

May her memory be a blessing to everyone whose lives were touched by her wit and wisdom.  My deepest sympathies to her family.

I just wanted to add that ever since I've lived in Carlsbad, CA for the last four years, whenever I saw the LaBahn's landscaping trucks around, they always reminded me of your dearly departed. Much love.

LaVaughn was unique and so beautiful, a person of tremendous wit, distinction, integrity, intelligence, talent. Her life force was so strong and distinctive I’ve been unable to really accept that she’s gone from our time and space. I’ve loved and respected her for thirty years—from our first moment. I’ve liked and trusted her, enjoyed her, been so grateful to her for her wise counsel and warm true comfort for so many years. She was entirely present, always. And so fierce. And so fiercely herself. To say I will miss this gorgeous human being’s presence is the understatement of the year 💜💜💜

For the all too few times that I spent some moments on the side talking to Lavaughn at our annual holiday gatherings, my memories of our conversations were that we always had some interesting topics we could discuss between each other, especially when it came to ethereal and mystical things. I always found her sense of belief and optimism as a bright note in a sometimes dark world (especially when the topic involved American politics). And we never had a dull moment or lull in our discourse which is a testament to her intelligence and personable character. I just knew that she would have some cool or neat thing to add that I had not heard of or read about which would peak my curiosity even further.

I'm so very sorry for our losing her so soon, but I feel very deeply that the next steps beyond this physical plane are a movement to some better existence and perhaps a kinder, more resolving peace. With this, I can retain the hope that she is in a better place and if she is able to look back, she will see how much she is still loved and truly missed.

The universe had added another bright soul when you were born Lavaughn, and has with all things, moved your beautiful soul through to its next transition. Even though we are sad for your loss, we will always try to celebrate the time that we have been blessed to have spent with you, and our lives are certainly better for it.

Nothing I can write here will express the Shock and Deep Sadness of LaVaughn's passing.
The minute LaVaughn and I met at Montclair State, we had an instant connection.  I loved how much of an individual she was.  I even interviewed her in one of my media classes.  

She is the only friend I've kept in touch with from college.  We had done so many things together from going to Poetry Readings, Singer / Songwriter Performances, many nights at Tierney's listening and Dancing to Jump Blues, Rhythm & Blues, and Pop 60s bands, if we weren't hanging at the Pipeline.  

We had great times together.  But most of what I treasure is the long and deep conversations, we used to have, especially late nights after the bands.  We would talk for hours on her sofa about so many things too numerous to list all; Life in general, relationships, music, metaphysics, etc.  We would go till morning the next day.  And not to mention the many Nights at the Diner, one on one, or with a group of like minded great friends.  

I was very happy when LaVaughn and Jason started dating.  I could see so much clicking in place for her.  I am grateful I got to know Jason and eventually Corrine; what a wonderful family.  My heart goes out to you both.

LaVaughn, you were one of my Dearest and Best friends, supporter, teacher, confidante, et. al.  I am still in shock of this news as I write this.  This hurts more than I can say.  I hope I was as good a friend, as you were, and I hope one day we'll see each other again.

Lavaughn is not only a friend but soul family: a soul mother, teacher, compassionate companion. She took me under her angel wing when I was just 15, believed in my words and music, even took me to my first performances. We have had endless laughs and countless hangs and long conversations in diners, cafes, the old-school phone. I thank her for nearly 30 years of friendship. Kind, witty, brilliant, gifted, she will be loved forever. Wishing her and her family nothing but peace.
