

She was born on March 14, 1939 in Reading, PA the daughter of the late Albert and Sydney (Franks) Wursch. She was a graduate of Shippensburg University and after receiving her masters taught for 43 years before retiring as a School Teacher for the Fairfax County Schools.
In September 1967, she was one of seven teachers selected to begin a pilot kindergarten program. Thirty-seven years later, she retired after hundreds of students passed through Room 24 of Hollin Meadows Elementary. The Fairfax County School Board passed a resolution in 2005 forever naming Room 24, the Marie Bailey classroom.
At her retirement, she was remembered as compassionate, persistent, patient, dedicated, consistent, and energetic serving as a model for other teachers to emulate. Post retirement, she mentored new teachers in Fairfax county helping them find their footing in the classroom to be successful teachers.
She continued serving after retirement, working in the church pantry assisting other volunteers in preparing food and clothing and distributing those resources to members of the community in need.
She had a passion for gardening and loved seeing the fruits of her labors bloom every season, forever having color in the yard. She loved spending time with her family and friends; often hosting picnics and gatherings at home. She will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness and sense of humor.
Her husband Ottis Wayne Bailey preceded her in death.
Survivors include her two daughters, Kimberly S. Bailey of Nokesville, VA and Deborah L. Kuhn of Manassas, VA; two grandchildren, Jonathan Kuhn and wife Stephanie Kuhn and Nicholas Kuhn and wife Nicole Kuhn; one sister, Rita Hofer (Eric Hofer) of Exton, PA.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford with Dr. Doug Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Stafford Memorial Park.
