Marti was born in Chattanooga TN, the daughter of the Rosie Marie Lankford (Atlanta GA) and the late Paul Dwayne Smith. She passed quietly at her home in Stafford.
Marti spent her youth growing up in Chattanooga and living with her late grandmother, Margaret Ophelia Alford Edwards.
In 1985 Marti moved to Quantico VA and lived with her aunt and uncle, Sherial Faye and Tommy Campbell, and remained a part of their family until called home.
She attended Quantico HS and continued her education at Germanna Community College, Northern Virginia Community College and later at American University earning a Double BA in Communications and Psychology. She also earned a Master’s in Psychology from University of Maryland (UMBC)
Marti worked with SerCo, Inc., as a federal retiree thrift investment benefits contractor. Previously she worked as a home health nurse while living in Seattle, Washington; a residential concierge, human resources benefits assistant with AIA Engineers, LTD and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
In 2019 a serious auto accident forced her into medical rehabilitation. In 2021 she recovered and was able to resume working and travelling. Marti was able to travel to Atlanta that year for Thanksgiving with her mother, brothers and sister.
She is survived by her mother, Aunt Faye and Uncle Tommy Campbell (Stafford, VA) and brothers David and Anthony Lankford, sisters Gendera Malveau (Atlanta), Chanda Smith (MA), brothers Elrod and Paul Smith (OH), Uncles and Aunts Paul (Sandra) Campbell, Bernard (Tracy) Jenkins, Aunt Seretha Melendez, all from San Antonio TX, Cousins Letisha Campbell and Brandon Rowland (Atlanta), Paul Campbell Jr, (OR), Tracey West Walker (WA) and a host of other nieces, nephews, and family members; special friends Ken and Cheri Quattrocchi and many other friends.
A visitation for Marti will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 161 Embrey Mill Road, Stafford, VA. A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 161 Embrey Mill Road, Stafford, VA. An interment will occur at Glen Haven Cemetery, Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, VA.
