Mary Thompson Echevarria, 73 of Stafford passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born May 29, 1946 in Vidor, Texas the daughter of the late James “Cotton” Guy and Mary Aline (Eskind) Thompson. Mary graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1964, the recipient of a full scholarship. Upon completion of business school, Mary began her secretarial career with Gulf States Utilities. After several years at GSU, Mary secured an Administrative Secretarial position with Shell Pipeline in Houston, Texas. In 1975, Mary accepted an Executive Administrative position at their offices in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is there where Mary met Frank Echevarria, a U. S. Marine stationed at NAS Belle Chasse, LA. and their long love story began. They married in 1977 and moved to Hawaii courtesy of the U. S. Marine Corps. They transferred to Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA in 1981. Mary started working for the accounting firm Arthur Andersen in Washington, DC as an Executive Assistant and retired from the firm in 2001. Mary then went to work as an Executive Assistant at the Peck Madigan Jones lobbying firm in Washington DC. She retired from the lobbying firm in 2009. Mary loved her family and friends. Although she never had children of her own, she loved all her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She loved to cook and to sing. Mary is preceded in death by her parents James and Aline, and brother Darell. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 45 years, Frank; sister, Dianne Hollier; sisters-in-law Alex Alvarez, Sonia Santo, Chris Echevarria; nephews, Paris Thompson, Brandon Hollier, Jason Echevarria, David Nager, Chris Nager, Kenny Santo; nieces Zoe Alvarez, Laura Gibreal, Lysi Gibreal, Alana Sales-Parada, Eli Echevarria-Fernandez, Amber Rose Echevarria, Mandy Echevarria, Sammy Echevarria, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel from 6-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 am Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at the funeral home, with interment to follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
