Michael Boyd Bibb (Sr.), 74 years of age, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024 under the care of hospice at Sunrise Assisted Living in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was born in Albemarle, Virginia on April 2, 1950. He attended high school at Stonewall Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Boyd Bibb Jr.; daughter, Michelle Danielle Bibb; father, John Lewis Bibb, Sr.; mother, Alice Anne (Harvey) Bibb and his brothers: Curtis James Bibb, Bruce Harvey Bibb, Sr. and John Lewis Bibb Jr. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorothea Clair Bibb; sister, Sharon Bibb Strohbeck; four surviving children (Jimmy, Tabatha, Brittney and Katrina); eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
What a remarkable life that he lived. He was a man with many attributes and had an absolute zest for life.
Determined and Resilient: Michael was presented with insurmountable grief during his life including the loss of two children. Yet, he rose to become an accomplished journeyman and master electrician. He believed in finding success and valued education. He was a man that led by example, having gone back to complete his GED and then pursued numerous certifications over the years. He climbed the ranks at Truland electrical and taught his trade to many apprentices over the years. Even after his stroke in 2015, he persevered through countless therapies over the years.
Thrill seeking and Fanatic: Michael was also a racing and sports enthusiast. He loved the rush of adrenaline! He raced cars and bikes and traveled with the Bibb Bandits softball team. Hail to the Redskins! Go Hokies! Go Terrapins!
Humorous and Bright: Michael loved to share his smile. He found humor in all things and teased (or perhaps tormented) us all! Ultimately, he was created for the greater purpose of grandfather. He valued family and he absolutely adored his grandchildren. There was no greater joy than listening to him beam about his grandchildren.
Michael was moved into assisted living in August of 2023, nearby his youngest daughter in Maryland, to provide him the highest quality of life in his last years and was constantly visited by his wife and his family. He became a staple character in the facility and he had an abundance of aides, caretakers and nurses over his last few years, some of which he was incredibly fond of (special thanks to Chanel and Lillian). Everyone enjoyed his unique character. He loved to see all of his constant visitors, including his favorite grand-dog, Dewey.
A visitation for Michael will be held Monday, November 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. His Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00pm and his burial will will follow at Stafford Memorial Park, 154 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, Virginia.
