

Mike attended George Washington High School and graduated in 1963. After graduating, he studied and earned an associate’s degree in Engineering from Northern Virginia Community College. Mike had a successful career as an Engineer that spanned several decades. At the time of his passing, he was employed by DCS Corporation as a Quality Assurance Engineer. An outstanding employee, Mike was incredibly proud of his work, claiming it never felt like work to him as he always enjoyed the experience. In his free time, he was a long-time member and board representative for the American Society Quality (ASQ) Northern Virginia Section 0511. Additionally, Mike enjoyed his lifelong friends from George Washington High School Alumni Association, meeting often for dinner and fellowship.
Mike was a good man and loving father. He enjoyed the many years he shared with his life partner, Pat Ellerbee, the love of his life. They lived, loved, laughed, and traveled together for many years. Mike looked forward to visits with his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed exploring the many cities of the world. He was a lover of all sports but was most passionate while watching any game played by the Redskins or Washington Nationals. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and loving spirit.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Thomas Coleman; his life partner, Patricia (Pat) Ellerbee; sister, Patricia Warthan; and brother, Anthony Trovato.
He is survived by his children, Christy Prince (Mike), Beth Tafani (John), and David Coleman. Mike was also embraced and survived by Pat’s children Timothy Ellerbee (Genevieve), Lisa Ellerbee (Eddie Cruz), and Andrew Ellerbee. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Brandon Jenkins, Jeremy Skocz, Savannah Skocz, Leighla Tafani, and Briella Tafani, who affectionately called him “PopPop”. He leaves to cherish his memory, his brother, Frank Warthan (Toni); sisters, Sandra Pollock and Pamela Trovato Nau; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm, Friday February 24, 2023, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, VA. Interment will be private.
