Shirley Elaine Checca

Shirley was born on September 6, 1941, in Norfolk, Virginia to Robert Douglas Foskett and Virginia Coulbourn Foskett. She was pre-deceased by both parents; her beloved Aunt Catherine Foskett McCloud and Uncle Carlyle T. McCloud and cousin, Charles Coulbourn.

She attended Princess Anne High School as a member of the Class of 1959. After attending Elon College, she taught 4th Grade at Shelton Park Elementary School, Little Creek, Virginia.

In 1967, she began employment with United Airlines as a Flight Attendant. For more than 36 years, her career as Purser took her to domestic and international destinations spanning three quarters of the globe. She retired in 2003. She then began a second career with Kohl’s Department Stores, finally retiring in November, 2013 as the Beauty Consultant.

Shirley had a love of travel and adventure, combined with a love of history and classic movies. She loved animals, but was especially caring for her several cats.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 45 years, Laurence Checca, of Stafford; one daughter, Brianne Michelle Checca, of Stafford; John A. McCloud (Carole) of Williamsburg, Virginia; Leonora “Sis” Adylett (Ralph), of Coinjock, North Carolina and several cousins.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Services, 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA 22554. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at, Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service,

A Graveside Service and Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia, Thursday, January 9, 2014, 11 a.m.
