Mr. DeShields was born and raised in Stafford and was the oldest living member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ethel (Homes) DeShields, his first wife Beulah DeShields, a brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his Wife Julia “Chris” DeShields, four sons; Charles Turner, David Turner, Lloyd Turner (Rhonda) and Mike Turner (Joni), four daughters; Deborah Logan (Carlus), Karen Gordon (Keith), Barbara Meyer (Mike) and Faye Worrell (C.T.). grandchildren; Andrew Lavinus and Kristel Gillies (Michael), and an abundance of grand and great grandchildren through blended families.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Stafford with a visitation from 10:00a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg.
In lieu of flowers the family asked expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either the Mt. Ararat building fund or Faith Baptist Church Pinetopps, North Carolina 27864.
