Anaida Jean-Pierre, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, Godmother, and friend passed away on February 13, 2024 in Stamford, CT. She was 95 years old, a devout Catholic, and lived a life of humility and grace.
Anaida was born on December 16, 1928, in Anse-à-Foleur, Haiti, the oldest of seven children born to Arthur Jean-Guillaume and Anna-Lucia Jean-Pierre. She adored her siblings and celebrated their childhood memories. Affectionately called Da, Ida, or Mummy Dada, Anaida told wonderfully detailed stories of her adventures in Haiti, hummed sweetly in quiet moments, and radiated love. She was intimately connected to so many milestones, offering her talents as a chef, baker, and seamstress to Baptisms, First Communion celebrations, holidays, and birthdays. Her cremase and Haitian cake were the hit of every party!
Anaida lived a simple life. While never a driver, she was an independent force who took long walks throughout town and created friendships with bank tellers, cashiers, and the clerks at the corner store. Always responsive to the needs of others, Anaida offered so many seemingly small kindnesses that had transformative impacts on so many lives. Generations of families have benefited from her time, attention, empathy, and infectious optimism. She cared deeply about others and made people better.
Anaida is survived by so many who were blessed to know her. This includes her brothers Nicolas and Arthur (Yolaine); daughters Marie-Julie and Sheila; grandchildren Louis (Meghan), Marc, Barbara, Emmanuel, and Anna; great-grandchildren Lilianna and Keira; nephews Rock (Sue), Elie, Max (Sabrina), Jean (Jill), Gary (Ruwani), and Arthur (Jessica); and nieces Anna, Annemarie, Lunise, Danielle, Vonick (Daniel), and Kharline (Clive); Godson Kelvin; many cherished grand-nephews and grand-nieces, and countless cousins and friends. Anaida was preceded in death by her brothers, Michel and Chenet, and sisters Onide and Berthe. May their reunion be sweet.
