Born on October 20, 1940, in Southfield, Michigan, Ann spent her early childhood years in San Marino, California, where she first discovered her love for swimming—an activity that would shape her youth and showcase her extraordinary talent. By the 1950s, Ann had become a world-class competitive swimmer, setting American records in backstroke and earning recognition as one of the country’s most promising young athletes. She later graduated from the American University of Beirut, an experience that reflected her early interest in international travel.
In the early 1960s, Ann worked as a TWA flight attendant before settling in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she raised her five children. She became a long-standing member of the Cos Cob community and was the owner of Ann’s Hobby Store for more than 20 years. The shop served as a familiar presence in the neighborhood until her retirement at age 80.
Ann is survived by her children: Kathy and her husband Ralph Meyers; Sandy Steigbigel; Rob and his wife Cindy Suger; Lisa Suger; and Randy Suger. She is also survived by her grandchildren Samantha, Andrew, Sydney, Jessica, Ciaran, Olivia, Sam, Ava, Kyle, and Christopher. In addition, Ann is survived by her three brothers—Larry McReynolds, Sandy McReynolds, and Jamie McReynolds—as well as two nieces.
Ann will be remembered for the varied chapters of her life—from national-level athletics to mother of 5, to decades of local business ownership—and for her long connection to the Cos Cob community.
The family has plans to gather for a celebration of life later in 2026.
