Ben Evans was born Benno Iwiansky in Koenigsberg, Germany on July 17, 1929. He and his family escaped Nazi Germany and arrived in Hoboken, NJ on his 10th birthday, 6 weeks before the war broke out.
He quickly learned English and became an American citizen. He attended NYU where, at Spade House, he met a group of students who became his lifelong friends. After serving in the army during the Korean War, he began a long career as an accountant at S.D. Leidesdorf, which eventually became Ernst & Young. He was very active in the Jewish community and held leadership positions at several organizations.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Bobbe Evans, 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He lived a life filled with good deeds, hard work and pride in his family. He was a towering presence, a true mensch, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
