Charlotte Lois Rubin Rothman was born on January 3, 1922 in Brockton, Massachusetts. The second of four sisters, she moved to Stamford in 1941, when she married her beloved husband Martin V. Rothman, a Stamford native. Widowed at the young age of thirty-five, she raised their four children on her own. After her beloved husband’s death, Charlotte assumed the role of President of Stamford Plumber’s Supply Co. for many years until she retired. She also was an active volunteer at Rehabilitation Center of Stamford for many years.
She is survived by her sons, Saul and Robert, each still residing in Stamford; a daughter, Nancy Rothman Lavigne (Louis) of San Francisco and Piedmont, California. Charlotte was predeceased by her daughter Janet Rothman Down. She is also survived by her grand-daughter, Maggie A. Rothman, and her fiance, Nathan Bird of Westport, Connecticut, together with three sisters, Miriam (Robert) Snider of Natick, Massachusetts; Marjorie (Benjamin) Abramson of Alexandria, Virginia; and Harriet (Michael) Sherman of Stamford, Connecticut, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was a wonderful and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. The center of her world, and the focus of her happiness, was her family, and her final days were spent surrounded by her family. Charlotte’s sense of integrity, honor, quiet strength and unassuming dignity, devotion, and compassion were the conspicuous traits of her personality, which she has passed on to her children. We will never forget the lesson taught, her love, and her dedication.
Her family would like to specifically thank Stamford EMS, The Stamford Hospital staff, Dr. Anja Wagner, Dr. Joel Blumberg, and a special thanks to her devoted and tireless caregiver, Matilia Cenejuiste of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
At the request of the family, funeral services will be private and will be handled by Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Charlotte’s name and memory be made to: No One Dies Alone, c/o The Stamford Hospital, 30 Shelburne Road, Stamford, Connecticut 06904.
