Born on January 1, 1934, in Staten Island, she was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Schwall. Betty lived on Staten Island for most of her life, graduating from Port Richmond High School. In her early career, she worked at National Distillers in Manhattan, and later at Blankstein Insurance Company, where she worked as a secretary until retiring at the remarkable age of 80. In 2022, she moved to Stamford to be closer to her daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Redmond Francis Gilpatrick; her brother, Brian Schwall; and her son, Bruce Francis Gilpatrick. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marian Gilpatrick of Stamford; her grandchildren, Hannah and Jared Gilpatrick; her sister-in-law, Carole Schwall; and her niece and nephew, Brendan and Cristin (McCoy).
Betty had a love of animals, especially cats, a strong devotion to her family, and a generous spirit that extended to her community. She volunteered at a local soup kitchen, giving her time selflessly to help others.
She will be remembered for her quiet strength, kindness, and the enduring love she shared with those closest to her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
