

Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Griffin, beloved wife of Joseph Griffin for 58 years, died after a long illness on May 8, 2015, 1 day after her 87th birthday. Born May 7, 1928 in Sparta, Wisconsin, to Ida (Farnham) Rutledge and William Rutledge, she was predeceased by her parents, her brother William Rutledge of Illinois, and her brother Robert Anker of Minnesota. Devoted mother of Elizabeth, Patricia, and Gail of Stamford, CT, Mary of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Catherine of Ossining, N.Y., and Robert of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, she served in the Army, most notably in the Signal Corps in France, and resigned just prior to a captaincy appointment. In addition to her husband and children, Betty leaves behind her sons-in-law Jeffrey Kant and Merlin Batista, daughter-in-law Jo-Ann Griffin, granddaughters Bethany, Kelly, Kerri, and Haleigh, and grandsons Michael, Kevin, Christopher, Joseph, and James, as well as friends in Connecticut, New York, and Wisconsin. Betty loved music and played the piano. She loved sewing and quilting. She was a devoted animal lover and could always be found with a dog or a cat at her side. She was gentle and strong, wise and compassionate, funny and sweet. She will be missed.
