Evelyn Sommer, of Stamford Connecticut, passed away on January 27, 2016, at the age of 91. While working as a research chemist, Mrs. Sommer earned a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and became a patent attorney in 1954. She worked full-time as a lawyer for over 60 years, until 10 days before her death. She was lovingly devoted to her husband of 57 years, Rudolph Sommer, who predeceased her in 2005. Together, they were loyal supporters of the arts, including the opera, ballet, symphony, and visual arts. She has a twin, Julia Einbinder of Richmond, Virginia, who survives her. She is also survived by her three children, Peter Sommer, of Cambridge, MA, Cathy Iselin, of Brooklyn, NY, and Tim Sommer, of Westchester, NY, as well as three grandchildren, Adele, John, and Lucy, and 15 nieces and nephews. A graveside service will take place 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 31, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Evelyn Sommer’s memory to the Cambridge Friends School Playscape , Cambridge Friends School, 5 Cadbury Road, Cambridge, MA 02140.
