Giselle Berube-Hubbert, 64, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020, surrounded by her family, after a courageous five-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born on December 12, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY to Roger and Mattie Berube, Giselle attended Saint Mark's school in Sheepshead Bay, where she made many lifelong friendships. She graduated from SUNY Farmingdale as a dental hygienist and for 10 years, worked in the dental clinic at Queens Hospital Center treating patients with disabilities. While there, she learned sign language to better communicate with her hearing impaired patients. After moving to Stamford 30 years ago, she taught sign language in Stamford’s Adult Education Program, volunteered with hearing impaired residents at the Smith House, and spent more than 20 years as a Sign Language Interpreter for Stamford Public Schools, primarily at Northeast School. She loved her colleagues and especially each and every one of her hearing impaired students, her commitment to whom lasted well beyond their school years.

Giselle was an avid skier and had a keen sense of adventure, traveling with friends whenever she could. She was overwhelmingly kind and selfless, and she will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved her.

Giselle is survived by her loving husband Jim, whom she met in elementary school and married 37 years ago, her three most beloved children, Lauren (Ben Salup), Gregory (Marianna Bender), and Brian (Emma Fields), and precious granddaughter Paige Giselle Salup. She is also survived by two sisters Suzanne (Ron) Lewan and Evonn (Bob) Reiersen, her many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, Uncle Henry and Aunt Ceci Berube, and many wonderful friends. Giselle is predeceased by her parents, her sister Nanette DiBona and niece Kim DiBona.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 13 from 1-4pm and 6-8pm at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral home (2900 Summer St, Stamford CT 06905). The funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Aloysius R.C. Church in New Canaan, CT on Monday, September 14, however, due to COVID restrictions the service will be limited to family members.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Giselle's memory to the American School for the Deaf in Hartford, CT to send deaf students to ASD's summer camp program. American School for the Deaf Donation Link https://asd-1817.myschoolapp.com/page/giving/donate-now?siteId=1499&ssl=1

Recuerdos

Giselle Hubbert

¿TIENE UN RECUERDO O UNA CONDOLENCIA QUE AÑADIR?

AÑADIR UN RECUERDO

Time passes...people scatter...but memories sustain us.
Barry and I want to express our heartfelt condolences to you Jimmy, and the beautiful family you and Gigi created.
Our memories take us back to all of us kids growing up in Sheepshead Bay.
I was blessed to meet Evonn and the Berube clan. I remember Gigi
always had this incandescent smile and energy way back then.
And although she was Eve’s little sister she left a big impression with her personality and warmth. It comes as no surprise that she went on (with you of course) supporting , giving, and loving others.
Such a beautiful soul.
She will be missed ...and always remembered.
May you find comfort in the love you shared and the memories you made together.

Jimmy and Family,
It is with such great sorrow that we leaned of Gigi’s passing. Our hearts are deeply with you and your Family at this most stressful period of your lives.
Gigi was always very special to me. We have known each other since grammar school. She was a wonderful human being who cared passionately about the wellness of others. Her smile and kind words were like a bright light illuminating the darkness. Her desire to help others, particularly those who had more challengers than the rest of us, was who she was. Gigi made me feel good about life and I shall miss her so very much. I do wish I had told her this once more before today.
We shall think of you often.
Love,
Christine (& Bill Mundt)

Giselle was one of the kindest, most gentle people I've ever known. She had a great sense of humor and boy did she like to dance! She will be profoundly missed. Our neighborhood will not be the same but I do know that we will have a wonderful angel looking out for all of us! Love to all the Hubberts! XOXO

Giselle and Jim gave us shelter
During hurricane Sandy's deadly weather
They said we didn't need a key
They treated us like family

You could hear Giselle laugh and think she's all fun
But the angels laugh loud at the good she has done;
The children laugh too as they troop to her call
And all who loved her laugh loudest of all

Now we must go on
Through the days made less bright
Without dear Giselle
And the loss of her light

I worked with Giselle at Northeast Elementary. She always had a smile on her face and did such a great job working with the children. She was such a beautiful woman both inside and out. She will be missed.
