Josephine M. Carragher

Josephine was born on August 25, 1940, to Michael and Madeline McLoughlin in New York City. She attended Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn and was working at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company when she met her husband, Owen B. Carragher. She married Owen on August 25, 1962, and they resided in Jackson Heights, Queens before moving to Yorktown Heights, NY in 1965.

After raising her three children, Josephine returned to the work force with Blue Cross Blue Shield in Yorktown Heights and gracefully retired after twenty years of dedicated service.

Josephine's life was marked by moments of joy and a powerful sense of community. Throughout her years in Yorktown Heights, she cultivated lasting friendships and contributed to the well-being of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish and local organizations. Josephine always gave of herself and had a kind word. Her love, Irish heritage and strong faith defined her and endeared her to her family and friends. Josephine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Owen, her brother William McLoughlin, her sister-in-law Margaret McLoughlin, and her brother and sister-in-law Patrick and Joan Carragher. She is survived by her sons Owen Jr. (with wife Pam) and Joseph (with wife Cindee), her daughter Kathleen, and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Michael McLoughlin, her sister-in-law Patricia McLoughlin and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Josephine will be held Friday, July 18, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St, Stamford, CT 06905. A mass of Christian burial will occur Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St Bridget of Ireland Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
