Linda Garner

Linda Ann Garner, a former Stamford resident, died Saturday, September 25th at Bridgeport Healthcare Center in Bridgeport, CT. She departed this life after a lengthy battle with a terminal illness.Born December 17, 1942 in Fairmont, NC she was the daughter of the late Robert and Shamley Leak. After high school, Linda moved to Connecticut and was employed at Olin Corporation in Stamford for over 20 years. Linda also worked for Stolt Nielsen Transportation Group before retiring in October 2003. A loving mother and grandmother, Linda’s family was her pride and joy. She was a member of Union Baptist Church of Stamford and First Baptist Church of Fairmont, NC. Even in sickness Linda enjoyed volunteering to help feed the homeless at the New Covenant House and the Fairmont Nutrition Center.Linda’s memory is carried on by two daughters, Sonya Garner of Stamford, Yvette Henley and husband Douglas of Middletown; one son, Dwan Elliott of Stamford; one sister, Carol Leak-McKenzie and husband Andrew of Fairmont, NC; four grandchildren, Sahara and Arabia Henley of Middletown, Jalen and Jaki Elliott of Norwalk and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29th at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Homes, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford. Services will be at First Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC on Saturday, October 2nd.
