
Margaret Lucas Kenna beloved mother and lifetime resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on August 31, 2011 at Stamford Hospital. She was 84 years old. She was born January 24, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Nicolas and Anna Zvon Lucas.
Mrs. Kenna was predeceased by her husband Raymond. She is survived by two daughters; Colleen F. Kenna of Norwalk, and Maggie Kenna McCord, (Bruce) of Milford, one grand-daughter, Lauren McCord. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother; Florence Lucas of Stamford, Ann Russo of Milford and Edward Lucas of Maryland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Margaret graduated from Stamford High School in 1944. She then graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in N.J., where she received her R.N. degree. She began her nursing career at Stamford Hospital and then became a floor nurse, followed by a career at St. Joseph Hospital, as a surgical nurse in the operating room. Upon her retirement from the hospital, she held several positions as a nurse in in private school settings, having always been interested in working with children, she then became an educational assistant at Ryle and Toqham schools.
Margaret adored the beach, was an avid swimmer, loved to rider her bike down to Cove Island, and taking walks with her dog. She loved to travel, take day trips, shop, listen to music, and dance. She also had a passion for gardening and the outdoors. She always elaborately decorated her home for the holidays and welcomed friends and family with open arms and love. She loved animals of all kind, especially her dog and cat, Milton and Marshall.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, September 3, from 9:00AM to 11:00AM at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street Stamford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00noon at St. Mary’s Church, Elm St., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT.
