

Our beloved "Pop" Mario R. Pombo-Marin passed on peacefully from this life surrounded by his loved ones after a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer on Sunday, December 18th, 2016 at Stamford Hospital. Mario was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on June 1st, 1954 to Luis Mario Pombo and Azucena Marin. He moved to the United States in 1971 with his mother and sister Jeannette Arbulu, settling in New York City and going on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. On October 26th, 1985, he married the love of his life, Maritza Pilar Pombo Ibarra, with whom he would start a family and raise two loving sons, Mario Xavier and Maurice Rafael. He started working at Sikorsky Aircraft in 1987 and translated his passion for aeronautics into a 29 year career of dedicated service.
He was a man with a rare appreciation for life and it's many joys. His hobbies included working on his garden, listening to music, watching soccer matches with his sons and traveling with his "reina." His true passion was his family and he was a family man in every sense of the term. He wore many hats in our family. Loving husband, devoted father, wonderful hijo, caring brother, tio, primo, sobrino and a true friend. His is a legacy of love and family, who will miss his smile, laughter and dance moves, but will cherish every memory that we have of a man that we were so blessed to have in our lives. He is survived by his wife Maritza, his sons Mario Xavier and Moe, his mother Susy, his sister Jeannette and so many others through whom his spirit will always live on. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street in Stamford, CT, who are also entrusted with the arrangements. They can be reached at (203) 327-1313. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22nd at St. Leo's Parish at 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT.
