

Michael S. Sherman of Stamford, CT passed away suddenly on November 7, 2015 at the age of 87. Michael was born in Stamford on January 18, 1928. He was a life-long resident of Stamford, graduating from Stamford High School in 1945. Michael went on to the University of Michigan and graduated in 1949 and then graduated from NYU Law School in 1952. He then served in the U.S. Army, Judge Advocate Corps, for two years when he was honorably discharged in 1954.
Michael married his beloved and devoted wife Harriett N. Rubin in January 1954 and settled in Stamford for the rest of his life. Michael and his younger brother Edward J. Sherman of Newtown Square, PA were the sons of the late Joseph H. and Gertrude S. Sherman. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Harriett and their three children Jennifer S. Torbick of Norwalk, CT, Joseph M. Sherman of Natick, MA and Pamela S. Lesser and her husband Steven of Wayland MA and his six beloved grandchildren who were the heart and soul of his life, Alexandra, Davi, Kayla, Daniel, Sophia and Anna. All of them will greatly miss their papa.
Michael was an attorney in private practice for 35 years. He was then appointed Corporation Counsel by Mayor Louis Clapes. He then served as Commissioner of Worker’s Compensation for the Stamford/Norwalk District. Michael then retired where he continued to be a generous contributor to a myriad of charities and an active member of several organizations including Stamford Jewish Center, Temple Beth El and Doral Farm Association.
The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Leo P. Gallagher & Sons, 2900Summer Street, Stamford, CT. The family wishes to express its sincere and heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all who have offered words of kindness and support. Donations may be made in Michael’s memory to Temple Sinai or to a charity of your choice.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 10 at 2:00 PM at Temple Sinai in Stamford. Internment to follow at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Roxbury Road, Stamford. Shiva will be observed at his home on Tuesday following the funeral and on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 PM.
