

Romeo Melfi , age 98, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Stamford Hospital . He was the husband of the late Dorothy May Hoffman and the son of the late Mary Grace and Alexander Melfi of Stamford, CT.
Romeo was predeceased by his eight siblings and three nieces: His sisters: Nina Belingo, Elsie Furano, Clara Carvetti, Rose Malizia , Mildred Saunders and his brothers: John Melfi, Nick Melfi and Vito Melfi and his nieces were Clara Malizia DeFala or Derby CT, Carole Belingo Page of Springdale CT, and Theresa Belingo Lasczak of Norwalk Ct.
Romeo graduated from Stamford High School, worked for Bethlehem Steel in Pennsylvania prior to forming his own business as a painter and interior decorator.
He was an avid sportsman of which he especially enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and clamming. He was a lifetime member of the Stamford Fish and Game Club, The Newtown Fish and Game club Inc, the New Milford Sportsman Association and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Romeo was the last surviving Founder of the Spring Valley Sportsman Club of Spring Valley, PA.
In addition to the many organizations he supported, he had many other interest which included cooking and gardening. He was widely known for the prizes he won with the vegetables he grew and as the primary cook for the many game dinners put on by the various hunting clubs.
Uncle Romeo will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and by the many people who were lucky to get to know and love him.
He is survived by his sisters in law Jennie Melfi, the wife of the late Nick Melfi of Norwalk, Ct and Helen Hoffman, the wife of the late Bud Hoffman of Allentown, PA.
The nieces and nephews are: Louis Melfi and his wife, Janet of Easton CT, Joan Belingo Casolo of Norwalk CT, Barbara Melfi Sciglimplia and her husband, Robert of Stamford CT, Vito Melfi and his wife, Barbara of Lakewood Ranch Fl, Gary Melfi and his wife, Theresa of Norwalk CT, Nick Melfi and his wife, Donna of New Fairfield CT, Marie Furano Stobbie and her husband, Charlie of Stamford CT, Anthony Malizia of Darien CT, Anthony Furano of Washington DC, Neil Malizia and his wife, Ellie of Milford CT, Ann Saunders of Sharon CT, and Janice Melfi Pomazi and her husband ,Steve of Redding CT.
