George Randall Price or most known as Randy “Coach” Price, 70 of Stanley passed away peacefully, under the care of Gaston Hospice, on Saturday July 6, 2024. He was at his home and surrounded by his loving family. Randy was born in Philippi, West Virginia to the now late Eva Marie (Boner) Price and Calvin Price. Randy was a man of few words, but when he did speak, people listened. Randy was reliable, hardworking and honest. Personally and professionally, he was an encourager and a mentor to many.
Professionally, Randy was an educator. He graduated West Virginia University in 1976 with a Masters in Physical Education. He taught both physical education and social studies at the elementary and middle school levels in West Virginia and North Carolina. Randy coached basketball from 1988 to 1991 at Northeast Junior High. From 2002 to 2008 he coached baseball, basketball and football for the Stanley Recreation Department. From 2008 to 2013, he was the basketball coach at Stanley Middle School. Randy devoted 38 years of his life to teaching, coaching and mentoring his students. From 1980 to 1987, Coach Randy was a member of the West Virginia Coaches Association, and from 1988 to 1998, he was an honored member the North Carolina Coaches Association.
Randy never forgot his West Virginia roots and was a lifelong passionate fan of the WVU Mountaineers. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and runner. Coach Randy touched many people in his life. He leaves a large hole in his family, his profession, his church and community. He will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish their memories of Randy are his wife of 40 years, Diane (Lynch) Price and their two sons, Conner Price and his wife, Tiffany, and Tyler Price and his wife, Alexis. Randy is the third oldest of nine children. His siblings are Greg Price and his wife Jane, Kathie (Price) Johnson and her husband Jim, Tim Price and his wife Linda, Bruce Price, Karen (Price) Frayer, Kevin Price and his wife Joyce, Todd Price, Matt Price and his wife Donna and Tony LaBonte and his wife Terri. Missing their uncle are numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday evening July 9, 2024, at Northlake Assembly of God Church located at 2632 Sunset Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Wednesday morning at 10:30 am there will be a service celebrating Randy’s life at Northlake Assembly of God Church. Pastor Bruce will officiate.
