

Anna Somma Pinto, 99 Expert seamstress with 'hands of gold,' grew up in Rosebank Anna Somma Pinto, 99, married for 64 years to Anthony Pinto, passed away on Sept. 22, 2016. She was the sixth of 10 children, and the last surviving of her siblings. She was born in New Haven, Conn., and moved to Rosebank, Staten Island, when she was 6. She also lived in West Brighton and Concord. Anna enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, and around the USA. She loved the theater, soap operas, knitting, baking, and cooking. She was known for her great skill at sewing and knitting, and her exquisite taste. One of her in-laws described her as having "hands of gold" for she could make anything and everything. She was a member of ILGWU, and worked in clothing factories in S.I. and Manhattan, enjoying the work greatly - she was highly skilled in piecework, and given the most difficult parts of clothing construction. Anna was a member of St. Sylvester's Church. Predeceased by her husband, Anthony, in 2010, she was the loving mother of Anne Marie Reilly and Anthony Pinto Jr.; grandmother of four and great-grandmother of two. The wake will be in Casey Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at St. Sylvester's Church, 854 Targee St., S.I. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
