

Born in the Bronx, he graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in his native borough. He lived in Silver Lake and Castleton Corners before settling in Emerson Hill in 1988.
Mr. Simon received his bachelor's and master's degrees in science from Fordham University, the Bronx.
He had a 25-year career teaching chemistry and physics in city public high schools, until retiring in 1989. He had been teaching chemistry for 15 years at St. Peter's University, Jersey City.
A dedicated runner, Mr. Simon had competed in the New York City Marathon as well as marathons in London and Hong Kong. He also enjoyed reading, scuba diving, traveling and photography, taking photos of African wildlife and of his students competing in track meets.
His first wife of 18 years, the former Phyllis Pietrangelo, died in 1985.
Mr. Simon is survived by his wife of 27 years, Luci.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
