

Berardino Veneziano, 91, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020, after suffering a massive stroke. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Lena (Varriano); his brothers, Antonio, Diogene, Carmine, and Angelo, and his sister, Cristina.
Berardino was born and raised in Vinchiaturo, Campobasso, Italy and moved to Staten Island, N.Y. in 1952. He was a veteran of the Italian Armed Forces and retired as a Masonry Engineer at St. Luke's- Roosevelt Hospital in 1994.
Berardino was fondly known to all his Vinchiaturo paesani as "Cicagnero" and "Z'lardine". He was a longtime member of a hometown organization "Societa di St. Bernardino of Staten Island." He enjoyed attending the annual picnics and dinner dances with the organization and lifelong friends.
Throughout his life he enjoyed gardening, cooking, making homemade wine, homemade pasta, homemade bread, homemade sausage, and jarring tomatoes. He and his wife Lena owned a bakery on Jersey Street, Staten Island in 1953. With his masonry skills he built his own home with his son and brothers-in-law in the Catskills. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and line dancing with his friends at the Todt Hill Friendship Club.
Berardino enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. During the final six years of his life he resided with his daughter Phyllis. He truly enjoyed his quiet time bird watching in his daughter's backyard, spending time at his house in the Catskills, drinking his wine with peaches, and gallivanting with his son-in-law Pete, his best buddy and pal.
He is survived by his children: Angela Captain (Greg), Phyllis Veneziano-Torres (Pete), Bernard Veneziano (Antonietta), Lisa Cutler (Marty), and his grandchildren, Christina Torres, Amanda Veneziano, Bernard Veneziano, Madisen Cutler, and Annamaria Veneziano. He is also survived by his sister Maria Marinelli-Veneziano and brother Mario Veneziano, brother-in-law Anthony Varriano and many beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be from the Casey Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2020, with a prayer service at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Moravian Cemetery. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, August 27, 2020, 4 to 8 p.m.
