Carol Ann Dougherty, 81, of Staten Island, passed away on April 11, 2022. She was born to Timothy Brereton and Rose Brereton (Keeney) in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn on December 11, 1940. She moved to Randall Manor in 1980 with her late husband George Dougherty. There they raised their son George. Carol was a lifelong educator and extremely passionate with her work. A high school English teacher for over 23 years, teaching the majority of those years, at Curtis High School from 1966 to 1986. In addition to teaching English, she also served as a Grade Advisor and Careers Coordinator. She later became the Assistant Principal of Administration and Guidance at Staten Island Technical High School, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. She was an integral part of developing and leading SI Tech to being one of the top High Schools in this country. She was very proud of all the students she was able to teach and guide over the years and this was apparent by the number of former students that to this day would remark to her or her family the positive impact she had on their lives. As significant as her career was – her family, friends, religion, and pet were most important to her. She leaves behind her son George and his wife Dianne; her two grandchildren, that she absolutely adored, Kathryn (Katie) and Brian; her beloved pet Biscuit; many very close friends (too many to list – but you know you are family); and many cousins. Over her life Carol had been involved with many community organizations and received many awards and recognitions for both her work and volunteering – encompassing Alumni Associations, Dispute Resolution Groups, Snug Harbor Cultural Society and The OLGC Food Pantry to name just a few. In addition, she was awarded a "Women in History Recognition in 1997. She enjoyed the beach, previously spending many summers in Breezy Point. For many years she enjoyed playing golf and tennis. But throughout her life she was always an avid traveler. She had visited 6 of the 7 continents and was always up for an adventure. She and her network of very close friends were always planning their next trip.
