Claire Eleanor Hansen, known affectionately by all as Eleanor, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in Staten Island, New York. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and cherished member of her community, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Eleanor was born in Staten Island and was a lifelong resident. She worked as a teacher for a brief but meaningful period in her early years before retiring to become a full-time stay-at-home mom, where she poured her heart into raising her family. Eleanor’s love for helping others didn’t end there—she was an active Girl Scout leader during the 1950s and 60s, guiding and mentoring young girls with the same warmth and care that she showed her own children.
A beloved and faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years, Eleanor found strength and solace in her church family and was known for her kindness and generosity. She shared a loving and enduring marriage of 64 years with her late husband, Eric, who passed away in 2019. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Eleanor is survived by their son, Ronald, and her three grandchildren, Erik, Andrea, and Olivia, all of whom brought her great joy. She was predeceased by her beloved son Ralph in 1984, a loss that she carried with grace throughout her life.
A visitation for Claire will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 216 Jewett Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302.
Eleanor’s legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate to know her. May she rest in peace.
