David Giovanelli, 80, passed away on Saturday, August 30, with family members by his side. A lifelong Staten Island resident, he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, but otherwise cherished his home roots in NY. He graduated from Curtis High School and Baruch College, earning his Bachelor’s degree. An avid theatergoer and die-hard Yankees fan, he enjoyed attending performances and games throughout his life. In earlier years, he took up ballroom dancing and succeeded in many competitions, but truly loved it for his personal pleasure. His greatest moments of happiness were spending time with his family and friends, particularly on Staten Island and in New Jersey.
His career as an accountant continued beyond retirement, with him always willing to assist his family. He worked for the Small Business Administration, NYC, traveling to lower Manhattan for his work.
He is survived by his two sisters, Grace Schnoes and Gloria Pineiro, and two nieces, Ruth Pineiro and Judith Pineiro, as well as his nephew-in-law, Christopher Poppe. He is predeceased by his parents, Mildred and David Giovanelli, and his brothers-in-law, Frank Schnoes and Claudio Pineiro.
Visitation will be held from 9am to 11am at Harmon Funeral Home on Staten Island, followed immediately by the funeral service at 11am at the same location, and interment at Moravian Cemetery.
