

Dorothy Conway, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor, and friend, passed away on March 28, 2025, at Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was 100 years old.
Born on October 31, 1924, Dorothy lived a life marked by resilience, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She faced many obstacles throughout her life with strength and grace. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Port, and later remarried Thomas Conway, who also predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Port.
During World War II, Dorothy contributed to the war effort as a welder, demonstrating her strength and determination in a pivotal time in history. She later dedicated over 30 years of service as a Matron for the New York City Public Schools before retiring.
A devout Catholic, Dorothy was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Rosebank, where she was a cherished member of the Christian Mother Group. Her faith was central to her life, guiding her in service and community involvement.
Dorothy was deeply committed to honoring and assisting veterans. As a long-standing active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Watkins-Kellett Post 277, she served in several leadership roles, including Past District President of both Richmond and Kings County. She took great pride in participating in Fleet Week, memorial events, and marching in annual parades to honor those who served.
Always willing to lend a helping hand, Dorothy volunteered with numerous organizations, including the Special Olympics, where she was recognized at the city level for her contributions. Her generosity and dedication to helping others left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Dorothy led an active social life and loved attending events, always dressed in style. She found joy in playing bingo and gardening, passions that brought her happiness and companionship.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Marion Snyder; her granddaughter, Victoria Orleman, and her husband, James; and her four great-grandchildren, James, Faith, Olivia, and Sadie. Her legacy of love, kindness, and community service will live on in all who knew her.
Dorothy’s life will be celebrated in a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Rosebank. Interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a veterans’ organization or the Special Olympics in her honor.
A memorial gathering for Dorothy will be held Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314.
A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, April 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 466 Tompkins Ave., New York, NY 10305.
