Eleanor T. Meurer

Eleanor Theresa Meurer (nee Sullivan) of Hazlet, New Jersey died peacefully on December 31, 2022 at the age of 92, surrounded by family. Eleanor, or “Ste'' as she was called by close friends and relatives, was born in New Brighton to Michael and Elizabeth Sullivan. She attended St. Peter’s School and graduated in 1948. Eleanor worked in New York and soon after met her husband Peter whom she married in 1954. After raising seven children, she worked as an activities coordinator for the New Brighton Nursing Home for 18 years. She retired in 1996.

Eleanor kept herself busy in her retirement playing games and traveling with her children and grandchildren. She belonged to several volunteer causes including a shawl group and rosary prayer club. She enjoyed going to the beach in the summer and reading to her grandchildren. She kept her wonderful sense of humor till the end.

Ste is survived by her brother James Sullivan, and sisters-in-law Mary Sullivan and Eileen Sullivan as well as her lifelong friend Elizabeth Hansen. “Mommy” was adored by her seven children, Peter and wife Lenore, Michael and wife Laurie, Donald, Robert (deceased) and wife Liz, Kevin (deceased) and wife Joanne, Peggy, and Brian. “Nan” will be sorely missed by her 14 grandchildren. “Aunt Ste” was loved by her nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a gentle, kind woman full of faith. She made an indelible mark on anyone who knew her.
