STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- George Lewis, 62, of Eltingville, who enjoyed collecting antiques and books, died Monday at home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he settled in Eltingville in 1966.
Mr. Lewis graduated from Oberlin College, in Oberlin, Ohio, with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He previously attended Harvard University, Columbia University and Cornell University, and he did postgraduate work in England and Russia. He earlier received his high-school diploma from Brooklyn Tech.
Mr. Lewis was an avid reader who collected books, antiques and art.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Wilkes Lewis, and his sister, Cindy Lewis.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Clare's R.C. Church, both Great Kills. Burial will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, Pa.
