
FDNY lieutenant, Navy veteran, beloved father & grandfather Gerald Cosgrove age 90, of Staten Island passed away on Wednesday April 27, 2022. A lifelong Islander Gerald was born in West Brighton to Gerald and Alice Cosgrove and grew up on Davis Ave. The oldest son of eight, Gerald served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 on the USS Meneleus and USS Beington. He worked for NYPD from 1956-1959 before switching to FDNY where he served as a firefighter in Manhattan, Staten Island and Brooklyn. He retired as a Lieutenant from Engine 281 FDNY in 1980. He lived in Westerleigh with his lovely wife Ann (Foran) whom he was married to for 29 years before her passing in 1987. Gerald remained close to Ann's siblings and spouses throughout the years. Gerald is survived by his sisters MaryAlice Joinson, Jane Lee, and Kathleeen Kliesch his Brother in law Vincent Kliesch and Sisters in law Leonora Poliseno Cosgrove and Ann Edwards Cosgrove. He is predeceased by his brothers Edward, Thomas and John, his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Denault and Brothers in law Richard Joinson, Theodore Lee and Bob Denault. He is also survived by his son Michael, daughter Kathleen Cindrario, son in law Dr. Dean Cindrario , Grandchildren Matthew and Jake Cindrario and many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed playing cards with his family, swimming , fishing , bowling and watching the Yankees. A visitation for Gerald will be held Monday May 2,2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Church 366 Watchogue Rd. Staten Island, NY on Tuesday , May 3, 2022 at 10:30AM. Interment to follow at St Peter Cemetery 52 Tyler Ave. Staten Island , NY 10310 at 11:40 AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Covenant House.
