John was born on August 1, 1946 and resided in Brooklyn, New York with his loving parents Elinor (Murphy) Foster and Frank Foster, along with his brother Robert Foster. John met his wife Elizabeth “Sally” Gorman, and according to both, it was love at first sight. They married and became family, forever bonding the Gorman-Foster family unit. John was happy to be a part of Sally’s family and her sister and nine brothers became some of John’s most cherished friends.
John decided to follow in his fathers footsteps and join the United States Marine Corps. He served for (4) years including a combat tour to Vietnam. Upon completion of his service as a Marine, he was called for employment with the New York City Fire Department, in which he proudly served for (28) years and was assigned to Ladder 107, Ladder 131 and Rescue 5.
After retirement, John continued working as a Fire Safety Director until 2021.
John had many hobbies with a great passion for ancestry. John spent much time researching our family genealogy and compiled historical records, building the first detailed branches of our family tree that has since been shared with all extended family. John’s family have treasured memories of their time with John, he was the patriarch and most adored person that will be forever cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
