

A graduate of Curtis High School, Mr. Irizarry lived in New Dorp before moving to Fort Wadsworth in 2006.
After 10 years spent working at Victory Van Lines, he switched careers: He studied phlebotomy at the College of Staten Island and took employment in the field at Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay. He retired in 2005.
Mr. Irizarry's pastimes included bowling, watching the Yankees and savoring old comedy movies, with Jerry Lewis a particular favorite.
Mr. Irizarry served as a petty officer third class in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975.
He attended St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Rosebank, where he'd been an altar boy.
Mr. Irizarry is survived by his son, John D. Irizarry; three daughters, Michele Irizarry, Jaclyn Irizarry and Ashley Irizarry; two brothers, Robert and Frank; a sister, Clara Mancuso, and two grandchildren.
There was to be a graveside service Friday at 11 a.m. in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island. The Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, is handling the arrangements.
