Born in Nuremberg, Germany, he later moved with his family to Brooklyn. He settled in Silver Lake in 2007.
He graduated from Susan Wagner High School, Sea View.
Mr. Day had worked for 35 years as a head runner at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., an investment firm in Manhattan. He was working at the time of his death.
He enjoyed collecting American pins and hats and other items.
“He was an avid patriot, proud father and husband and loving neighbor,” said his son, Joseph Jr.
Along with his son, Joseph, Mr. Day is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Winifred Lucas, and his sisters, Elizabeth Cannatelli and Marrianne Lippert.
Arrangements, including cremation, were handled by the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners
