STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Joseph A. Miranda, 64, of Annadale, an elevator repairman who loved spending time with his grandchildren and working with electronics, died yesterday at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born in the Bronx, Mr. Miranda was brought to the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn as a child. He moved to Staten Island in 1975 after marrying his wife of 36 years, the former Belle Rubin, who died Saturday after a bout with cancer. They lived in Bay Terrace for two years before moving to Huguenot, and then to Annadale in 1997.
Mr. Miranda worked as an elevator repairman for the Kone company.
He loved to play with his grandchildren. Mr. Miranda also enjoyed fixing things around the house and working on different projects. He was especially fond of electronics, like cameras and computers. After his granddaughter’s Sweet 16, he spent hours formatting photos of the event and setting them to music.
Surviving are his sons, Steven and Todd; his daughter, Tammi Caputo; his sisters, Joan Beyer and Cathy Steinbuch; and four grandchildren.
The funeral for both Mr. and Mrs. Miranda will be 11 a.m. today at the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
