Joseph Silva, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. Born on March 31, 1943, Joseph lived a life defined by devotion to his family, his faith, his community, and his calling as a New York City police officer.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Grace, his childhood sweetheart and partner of 63 years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, loyalty, and mutual respect. He was a devoted father to his sons, Joseph and Anthony, and a proud grandfather to Melissa, Joseph, and Alec, who were a constant source of joy and pride in his life.
A decorated member of the New York City Police Department, Joseph served honorably from 1968 until 1977. He was deeply committed to his work throughout New York City and took great pride in serving as a Field Training Officer, mentoring younger officers with integrity and professionalism. His career was cut short due to an injury that forced his retirement, but his identity as a police officer and public servant never left him.
Family was always at the center of Joseph’s life. He was a fiercely devoted family man and the steadfast patriarch of the Silva family. He lovingly cared for his mother in her later years and selflessly served as a caretaker to Grace’s in-laws, Rose and Como Cinelli. He was a guiding presence to his siblings, George “Sonny,” Philip, and Millie; and to their children, offering strength, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Joseph was an active parishioner at St. Joseph’s Parish in Rosebank and a strong supporter of his community. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and a dedicated student of history, pursuits that reflected his discipline, curiosity, and appreciation for tradition.
A visitation will be held on February 12, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home, located at 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314.
Joseph Silva will be remembered for his strength of character, sense of duty, deep compassion, and the profound love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in all those he protected, guided, and loved.
