Born in Bulls Head, Staten Island, on June 4, 1932, June was a lifelong Staten Islander whose remarkable journey was defined by dedication to her family, and her passion for nursing. She graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1949 and built a life filled with love and purpose.
In 1953, she married the late Edwin E. Holman, and together they made their home in New Dorp before settling in Castleton Corners in 1959. June worked for the Hartford Insurance Company for nine years before devoting 11 years to raising her family as a homemaker. However, her calling to serve others led her back to school. She graduated from the Practical Nursing School at Willowbrook in 1969 and earned her Registered Nurse degree from Staten Island Community College in 1976.
June spent 26 years caring for others at Staten Island University Hospital, where she made a lasting impact as a pediatric nurse, including eight years as assistant head nurse. Her compassion and dedication were recognized in 1995 when she received the prestigious Nurse of the Year Award, presented by the Rita Baratz Foundation and the Pediatrics Department. She retired later that year, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, empathy, and skillful care.
June’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was the beloved wife of Edwin, who predeceased her in 1989. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Cathy D’Elena, her loving son, Thomas Holman, and her cherished grandson, Michael Holman. She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary Leah Dellavalle. June’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of June’s life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314.
June’s memory will live on through the countless lives she touched—with her gentle hands, caring heart, and unwavering devotion.
