Kathleen Baratta, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at the age of 83. A lifelong resident of Staten Island, New York, Kathleen’s life was defined by devotion to her family, service to her community, and quiet acts of generosity that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Kathleen was the cherished wife of John Baratta, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and adventure. No road trip was ever too far for Kathleen and John—they were always on the go, enjoying travel and time together.
She was the proud and loving mother of John Baratta, Suzanne DeMeo, and Michael Baratta, and the heart of her family. Kathleen truly lived for her grandchildren: John and his wife Leanne, Gigi, John, Alexandra, Christian, and Michael. Whether knitting a blanket, sewing clothing, or creating one-of-a-kind Halloween costumes, she poured her love into everything she made for them.
Kathleen is also survived by her beloved brother, Frank Conti, and his wife Linda, with whom she shared a close and enduring bond. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Carmela and Charles Conti.
A graduate of Port Richmond High School, Kathleen began her career working in New York City as a secretary. After starting her family, she devoted herself fully to raising her children, serving as a stay-at-home mother until they were all in school. During those years, she was deeply involved in her children’s education and was especially proud of her service as PTA President at PS 21, where her children attended.
Kathleen later returned to the workforce and retired as an Assistant Branch Manager at Staten Island Savings Bank, a role she held with pride and professionalism.
Community involvement remained important to her throughout her life. She was an active member of the Senior Knitting Club at the YMCA, where she and fellow members knitted items to sell and donated the proceeds so that no family would be turned away due to lack of funds. She was also a dedicated member of the Silver Sneakers Club and loved going to the gym, staying active and engaged well into her later years.
Kathleen had a true passion for knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She relished being challenged by intricate patterns and took great joy in creating blankets, hats, scarves, clothing, and treasured keepsakes for those she loved.
Small in stature but enormous in heart, Kathleen left a huge impact on everyone she met. She was known for her sweetness, warmth, and ever-present smile. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
